Summary/Abstract: This information concerns the traditional way of supplying a typical hamlet in the Isker Gorge with water. The region is of interest ethnographically, since traditional forms in the people's way of life were preserved until quite recently. The author emphasizes that in the village studied the link between the environment and the type of settlement was clearly apparent. Definite forms of water supply developed under the influence of these interconnected factors. The use of shallow, flowing springs, characteristic of the village, was followed; they were gradually improved to varying degrees. The role of natural sources of water in the formation of settlements of the hamlet type is stressed. The author also considers the structure and use of the open water courses above the ground used in the village. The vessels used in drawing, transporting and preserving water are also described in detail. In characterizing the water supply of the village the author observes that owing to the mountainous nature of the region in which it was built, no lack of water was ever experienced. This determines the lack of any special or more intricate devices for supplying water, as well as of the customary-legal norms which would regulate its use.
