Summary/Abstract: Proceeding from the problematization of the Weberian postulate of the value neutrality of science, the author undertakes to constitute the limits of freedom/non-freedom of the reformer scientist who occupies a position in the neutral territory between science and politics. This is the space where the conversion of one kind of values, postulates, stakes, into another takes place, a space which often remains unnoticed. As an emblematic example, the author indicates the tense relations between the scientist and the late totalitarian and post-totalitarian power – the ambivalence, the temptations and the drama in these relations. They provide us with the heuristic possibility to probe deeply into this post-Weberian situation; they give us a chance to view in a new way the Weberian postulate itself of value and political neutrality of the scientist.
