Summary/Abstract: In his work, L’eau et la mort, Jean Libis asserts the following: “For some authors the water is a cosmos of writing”. Working on this idea, we try to analyze Anatol E. Baconsky’s masterpiece, Echinoxul nebunilor şi alte povestiri (The Fools’ Equinox and Other Stories), namely the role played by a basic element such as water, which unfolds here its thanatological hypostasis. According to Bachelard’s approach, we focus our attention on the inner complexes stimulated by the aquatic imagery. Then, our analysis extends to the theme of cosmic cyclicity, by considering water as the main symbol of this scheme. Similarly, we take into account the importance of the same cyclical scheme in Baconsky’s narrative discourse.
