Summary/Abstract: An encyclopaedic personality of the late Middle Age, Dimitrie Cantemir (1673-1723) stood up in the Romanian and European culture due to his historical, philosophical, religious and musical works. Unfortunately, The Hieroglyphic History (autobiographical piece of writing and political pamphlet alike, ciphered in an allegorical form) was not influential in the 18th century literature, as it was written in Romanian and remained unpublished until 1883. The present article analyzes the temporal level of the novel, focusing on Jaap Lintvelt’s values of the narrative time, namely order, duration and moment of narration.
