Summary/Abstract: The article deals with one of the earliest monuments in Bulgaria dedicated to SS Cyril and Methodius, the Enlighteners of the Slavs. It is a stone plaque erected in the yard of the church in the village Kereka (district of Veliko Tyrnovo) in 1885 on the 1000th anniversary of the repose of St Methodius. Its carved inscription reads: ВЪ ПАМЯТЪ ЮБИЛЕЯ 6 АПРИЛЪ 1885 Г. ПО СЛУЧАЙ ТИСЯЩИЛЕТИЕТО ОТЪ СМЪРТТА НА СВ. КИРИЛЪ И МЕТОДИ. The author dwells in detail both on the present state of the plaque and its history.
