Summary/Abstract: The article presents the concept of army leadership which the behavior of commanders of different ranks of the USA Army from the historical perspective is characterized by. The authors present the evolution of views on the officer-leader role in the US Army at the background of armed conflict from the XXth and XXIst centuries. Evolution of army leadership is presented based on military doctrines and Field Manuals of the US Army. The authors also show the results of research conducted at General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military Academy of Land Forces in Wrocław on the implementation of the content of education related to leadership competencies of officer cadets – candidates for the officers of Polish Armed Forces.
