Summary/Abstract: The academic entrepreneurship is a topical issue because of the importance in the commercialization of research results. The innovativeness of the economy depends on the quality of cooperation between science and business. Unfortunately actions and projects undertaken in order to improve it do not bring the desired results, also on the European scale − which is called “European paradox”. The role of universities in the transfer of innovation, knowledge and technology to business and the creation of partnerships between science and business is very important. The main aim of this paper is to identify the existence of the paradox effect in the development of academic entrepreneurship in Poland. The work is a reflection on the mental causes of identified contradictions that inhibit the commercialization of knowledge. The author points out that they must be searched mainly in the domestic aspects of the functioning of the university.
