Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the educational role of stores and fairy tales. First, theoretical part underlines the importance of developing a reading interest in lower primary class children. The second part implies the practical ways to support the integral child development through reading. Several groups of books are presented here which can be of vital importance in educational process: books introducing moral values, books teaching culture and good behaviour patterns, books helping to deal with difficult situations among friends, books teaching adaptation skills in new social roles and books showing how to cope with illness and disability, in case of both reader himself/herself and his/hers relatives.
