Summary/Abstract: This article analyses the treatment of the names of bakery and confectionery products in the Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech (Akademický slovník současné češtiny). It devotes attention to the choice of genus proximum for explanation and to the role of exemplification in illustrating the meaning of the given lexical unit. Based on a sample of entries, we aim to present how the method of the ASSČ differs from the practice of previous Czech monolingual dictionaries.
