Summary/Abstract: Social entrepreneurship is conceptualized through juxtaposing and comparative analysis in relation to business-economic entrepreneurship. Social entrepreneurship is treated in a sociological perspective as, in a sense, a hybrid concept. Special attention is devoted to the character and functions of social entrepreneurship, to the figure of the social entrepreneur and to the people engaged in the social enterprise. The entrepreneurs and the economic/capitalist entreprises strive for profit, and in pursuing their economic goals, they respond to social needs. The guiding motive of social entrepreneurship is to achieve the social tasks of vulnerable groups and members of society. The author notes the need for studying traditional social entrepreneurship and traces the perspectives of development of modern social entrepreneurship in Bulgaria and in united Europe.
