Summary/Abstract: This article presents the path of Max Weber’s reception in Brazil, emphasizing the pioneering role played in this process by historians and other scholars like the German-American political scientist Karl Loewenstein and the Austrian-Brazilian literary critic Otto Maria Carpeaux. Secondly, it analyzes the reception of Weber in social sciences and his practical influence in contemporary Brazilian politics. Finally, some comments are made about translation problems and misinterpretation of his works.
