Summary/Abstract: The study presents the analysis of a series of photos that shows a Franciscan monk, Kassay P. Kelemen (1877-1954). The pictures were taken in the first half of the twentieth century. Sources of the analysis are contemporary written documents and biographical data. It is assumed that socialization, education, cultural background greatly affects how a picture is taken. Judging by the frequency of use of photographic cameras, we can say that the Franciscan monks have embraced technical innovation in photography. They have done a lot of photos, and not only from behind the camera. It is observed that they deliberately and repeatedly sat in front of it, so they could leave a conscious trace in documenting life.
