The Medieval Documents of the Archive of Saint Elizabeth’s Almshouse in Cluj (Kolozsvár)

Summary/Abstract: The present study publishes the excerpts of the sixteen medieval (pre-1542) documents preserved in the archive of Saint Elizabeth’s almshouse in Cluj (Kolozsvár) (1366–1539). Some of these documents already appeared in print but later a few of them were considered lost. The charters presented in our study can be found in the Cluj Branch Archive of the Roman-Catholic Archbishopric of Alba Iulia (Gyulafehérvár) and concern mainly the donations made to the almshouse, among which a mill in Cluj and several parts of the nearby settlement Mera/Méra (County Cluj), which came into the possession of the almshouse in 1366 and 1525, respectively.
