Summary/Abstract: The present study deals with the history of the Kriterion Publishing House between 1970–1989 as constructed through audio interviews made with several ex-members of the publishing house staff . The pre-planned interviews were made with the purpose of learning about the ways in which the publishing house supported the minority cultures so that to ensure their survival in the last two decades of the Romanian communist regime. In doing so, the study focuses on a significant phenomenon of the cultural life from the period by combining anthropological and micro-historical methods with discourse analytic approach. By examining the cultural components of the informants’ discursive accounts the study intends to provide a novel interpretative framework concerning the Kriterion, a framework which consists of identity-aspects involved in every-day working practices and of the limits set by the ruling power of the period.
