Summary/Abstract: Abdulkerim Zuhdi Deftedarević; a kadi and a poet; is not unknown to our public as he had many times been referred to by authors like Handžić; Hadžijahić; Stojaković; and others. He comes from the prominent Deftedarević family of Alims from Sarajevo that produced ullama; kadis; teachers; statesmen (Abdulah-pasha Deftedarija). He was born in Sarajevo at the beginning of 19th century and died 1897. He was so much respected that people considered him to be the Friend of Allah (Awliya). His literary works are written in oriental languages and include a number of poems in Turkish; mainly tarikhs; but also one long poem about Sarajevo. This poem was once presented by Mehmed Handžić who accompanied it by modest information on the author. One codex manuscript of Zuhdi’s autograph is kept in the Archives of Serbian Academy of Sciences (No.147) in Belgrade. Deftedarevic was very successful in calligraphy and copying of oriental manuscripts; producing a number of valuable levhas and manuscript copies.
