Summary/Abstract: Rene Guenon was born in 1886 at Blois, France, into a conservative Catholic family. As a child of a distinguished architect, he went to the best schools in his home town. In 1904, he moved to Paris to study mathematics. He soon gave up his studies in order to follow a complex flow of learning and transcendence in secret societies, in the yearnings of learned individuals and groups to answer the fundamental questions of the human condition and the future of the world. His first article, titled "Le demiurge", was published in La Gnose in 1909. It showed exceptional maturity for a young man in his early twenties. The article explained the concepts of metaphysical learning as expressed in the Hindu Advaita Vedanta. The changes he underwent, his break with occultism, and everything that followed in the next 40 years until his death in Cairo in 1951, show that truth has no development. It was, is and will remain what it is for ever, and its manifestation in the wisdom of man is the only guarantee of maturity.
