Philosophy and Marxism in modern China: some reflections

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents some reflection on China based on personal experience acquired during a trip. Although this country is under the communist regime, one can observe a kind of „new openness” – some degree of freedom is given, especially for the humanities. At the same time however the decline of humanities is observed. The humanistic disciplines must take their share of the blame for the declining interest in their research subject-matter, for many disciplines have become dominated by skepticism and relativism with regard to knowledge and values, have rejected a traditional canon, and have sometimes marginalized the best minds and ideas in history in favor of new trends and fashions.
