Summary/Abstract: Animal studies as an academic discipline is not yet taught in Poland however an interest in human animal relations is growing rapidly forming a trans-disciplinary field of research. In anticipation of introducing animal studies to the institutions of higher education in Poland this article attempts to provide answers to basic questions such as: why teaching animal studies at the academia is important? How to convince others that animal studies are worth pursuing in the academia? What difficulties may be encountered? Referring to the history of animal studies as pursued in UK and US and to the current debate about it, this article focuses on the importance of ethical aspects of the discipline and its activist orientation.
