Summary/Abstract: In achieving indirect speech, a few graphic elements have a very special function: that of indicating the appearance of some discursive values different from those achieved if the words belonged to narration proper. Some punctuation marks (colon, suspension points, hyphen, dash, parentheses) acquire the function of encoding the written message, immediately indicate the character of the discourses that contain a particular person’s reflection or other people’s reflection.
