Summary/Abstract: The article investigates the connection between crime, control, and social existence as well as the ratings for adaptation to the social environment as a result from these variables. The general rating for the condition of social control done via the analysis of victimization and effective work of the police is empirically grounded. It has been established that crime exerts a great influence on the population’s quality of existence. The deterioration of its quality and quantity parameters in the world sets the serious problem of the price of crime – the economic, social, moral and psychological price as well as the ways of limiting its negative effect on security not only in national and regional but also in global terms. There are more and more resources spent on equipment for protection of property, rehabilitation of victims, recouping for someone’s damaged or destroyed property, maintenance of guarding institutions and institutions administering justice, funding programs connected with crime prevention, etc. A serious discontent among people is created due to the high level of crime and violence, as well as the ineffective counteractions of authorities. The moral and psychic price of the crimes done is considerable and it includes: violation of the universal values of honour, dignity, physical and sexual inviolability, trust; seriously damaging the communication, public habits and values, alienation and fear. The analyzed information provides a possibility to draw some conclusions about the connection between crime, control, social adaptation, and quality of existence. In the conditions of globalization there is a tendency of criminalizing while the insufficiently effective control and the dissatisfaction from the work of the police and protection authorities exert a negative influence on the social adaptation and quality of existence.
