Summary/Abstract: The recognized history of Kowary is inseparably connected with occuring floods. The most severe floods recorded in Kowary were in the years 1810, 1897 and 1997. Regarding the location of the examined municipality in the Jedlica valley, between the Karkonosze (the Giant Mountains) and the Rudawy Janowickie, there occurred in Kowary mainly flash floods and floods caused by precipitations. After each of the analyzed phenomenon, destroyed infrastructure was rebuilt and the Jedlica rivier regulated. It is also worth noting that after floods, the length of the damaged roads increased. According to the authors, this increase is directly proportional to the progressive economic development of Kowary.
