Summary/Abstract: Semiurbanization processes, in other words partial or incomplete urbanization, are one of the most significant manifestations of changes in the space of rural areas. They are in most part the effect of urbanized centres development impact on neighboring areas. Contemporary social and economical changes resulting from the mechanization of agricultural production, as well as the development of labor markets on urbanized areas lead to social, demographical, economic and spatial transformation of rural areas. However, the transformation does not always bring real socio-economical development. The processes of semiurbanization are determined by different factors: local authorities policy, attractive environment, improved land and current non-agricultural economic functions of rural areas. The main aim of the paper is to identify semiurbanisation areas in Malopolska region. Another purpose is to assess the regional and local development centres (cities) impact on rural areas. Semiurbanisation processes can be described by different indices. In this paper the processes are identified on the basis of six indices e.g. migration attractiveness, municipal revenues per capital, income from non-agricultural activities per capita.
