Summary/Abstract: The designated reader of the original "Dreams and Stones" by Magdalena Tulli and the translation by Jana Unuk are two separate subjects. The reason for the difference is mainly the differing functions that are present in each of these texts’ socially-cultural reality. The work, due to the plethora of philosophical and historical conexts (rebuilding a city after a wartime cataclysm, the relationship towards time, memory and language), its structural composition and multifacetedness (the reflexive, dynamic description, the lack of dialogue) cause multiple meanings of interpretation and multiple possible translation solutions.
