Summary/Abstract: The folklore of the Podhale highlanders is characterized by particularly rich culture. The features of highland crafts have been embeded primarily in the Podhale art, and in traditions and customs cultivated in the region. The relationship between the Podhale highlanders and nature has always been very clear, strong and emotional. Among the many features of highland culture, as the most important are considered pastoral traditions, including the importance of the baca (shepherd), the production of sheep’s cheeses and their ornamentation, and features of the utensils and vessels utilised to make these products. Owing to its artistic expression, the folk art of the Podhale is unique and exceptional, and its specificity clearly makes it distinguishable from any other mountain regions.
