Summary/Abstract: This article is the author’s commentary on the musicality and sound of the folk elements in a distinctive suite for children. Its specificity is twofold. First, the pieces of the suite were composed over a period of several years as separate, independent compositions. Second, it exists in two forms: electronic (“for tape”) and as a traditional musical score. The inspiration behind the composition discussed in the article is also twofold – a primary practical purpose and the role of the future audience (children) in shaping children’s songs, and from the area related to the folk elements contained in some parts of the final form of the suite. The folk characteristics are analysed in the context of the musical means and, more generally, sounds deployed in the piece, with particular emphasis on their role in the passage of musical time. In the article the concept of folklore is identified with the term “rural idyll” and draws attention to this as a leading concept in the creation of the suite. This concept primarily concerns the idea of time and its understanding as time which sometimes stops.
