Summary/Abstract: The objective of the article is to present the development of folk songs in the Czech Republic at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as to show the unquestionable merits of Oskar Kolberg in popularizing Czech and Slovak folklore. The materials related to these two countries are comprised in Volume 59, Part. II (DWOK). They include folk, popular and patriotic songs. They were recorded by Andrzej Kucharski, Wacław Dunder, as well as the creator of "A People", Kolberg himself. The circumstance which had a definite impact on the development of the interests in the folklore of our southern neighbors, was revitalization of Polish-Czech relations in the first half of the 19th century. Oskar Kolberg recognized characteristics common to Czech and Polish music. The collected materials, thanks to their authenticity, make up an excellent starting point for other researchers interested in the folklore of the neighbours from the south.
