Summary/Abstract: The article demonstrates that Adolf Dygacz’s collections of songs may be the subject of interest not only to the researchers of the language of folklore but also to dialectologists. Prof. Adolf Dygacz’s reliable methodology and competence in local dialects made the texts written by him a valuable material exemplifying and complementing the descriptions of Silesian dialects, published in dialectological studies. What may be also denoted in the texts of the songs are inter-dialectal features (however not numerous). The songs reflect the internal diversity of the Silesian dialect, archaic features of the lexical, phonetic and morphological characteristics of the local dialects, variations in pronunciation and dialectal vocabulary, as well as the impact of the standard Polish language (colloquial) on the Silesian dialect. Finally, the article suggests that the linguistic analysis of the songs from the collection of Adolf Dygacz should be also used in Polish-language education for, among others, reconstructing the cultural and linguistic image of the region and demonstrating the function of the dialectal matter in the texts of the folklore.
