Summary/Abstract: Nowadays, morbid obesity in children is perceived as parental neglect. Obesity is a risk factor for several diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus. We assessed the food habits of the 6th grade children and their parents from Timisoara, in 2008-2009. The hypothesis of the study was that food rich in lipids and carbohydrates is a risk factor for obesity and overweight. The results of this analysis reveal that the risk factors for obesity and overweight are represented only by gender (male) and age (over 35 years).
