Summary/Abstract: The author presents the findings of his research conducted in 2011 on the role played by major Hungarian festivals within the processes of sustainable development, based on the opinions of the public as well as the organizers of the festivals themselves. This non-representative study, which relies on qualitative and quantitative research methods, follows British research models. This type of research was first conducted by the cofounder of the organization “A Greener Festival”, Claire O’Neill. Its Hungarian counterpart confronts the research’s findings with the conclusions of the British studies.
