Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to undertake an analysis of a less researched area that of cross-border police cooperation in the European Union. We will track the way how police cooperation followed the European construction process: police cooperation in the European Community; the birth of the TREVI Group; police cooperation and the Schengen area; police cooperation within the Treaties of Maastricht, Amsterdam, Nice and Lisbon, finishing with the analysis of the intergovernmental arrangements at EU level and the attention given to cross-border police cooperation.
