Summary/Abstract: The study focuses on some aspects of diplomatic relations and ceremonies under the reign of Gabriel Bethlen, Prince of Transylvania (1613–1629), dealing with a special source type of Transylvanian-Saxon Archives, mainly the so called „Stadthannen¬rechnungen” (account books of the town villicus) of the main Saxon cities, Kronstadt, Hermannstadt, Schäßburg and Bistritz. The entries and comments of the city finance administrations shed light on important components of the early modern Transylvanian diplomacy, increasing our knowledge on Transylvanian relations with the Ottoman Empire and the neighbouring vassal countries. Moreover, the sources mentioned above reveal the conditions of hosting guests in urban communities of the Transylvanian-Saxons, highlighting organizational tasks and mecha¬nisms, every-day life, lifestyle and eating habits as well as ceremonial frameworks in case of distinguished guests.
