Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the use of minority languages in the Czech Republic as documented by the Council for the national minorities, an advisory body of the Czech Government. Two types of documents are used in this article – reports on implementation of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, and annual reports on the state of national minorities in the Czech Republic prepared for the Government by the Council. The article draws on these documents to provide an overview of situations where national minorities use their respective languages in the official communication with local authorities.
