Summary/Abstract: The article points out the important stages in the development of ethnomusicology in Bulgaria. This is done in order outline the place and role of the already well established seminar “New ideas in ethnomusicology.” It is created and organized by the research group “Ethnomusicology” at the Institute of Art Studies – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The aim is to meet the need for dialogue in a community of like-minded people united by common ideas and topics in the ethnomusicological research. The article also presents a meeting at the seminar, that discusses the Bulgarian participation in the ICTM (particularly in the Study Group “Music and Dance in Southeastern Europe”), as well as prospects of the Bulgarian group in the ICTM and establishment of a national committee.
