Summary/Abstract: One of the most important institutions in the communist regime was the clubhouse. It was charged by the communist regime as an institution that had to deal with educating the members of the society. But an analysis of its organization and program could reveal how most of these institutions were affected by the ideological dimension. This analysis focuses on the early days of Ceauşescu’s regime, a period characterized by a political liberalization. This political context raise the question: did this context of domestic politics affect the evolution of clubhouses? In order to answer this question, the analysis focuses on topics such as: the financial investments made for the clubhouses, the employee or their activities.Beyond the vision of policymakers, those institutions could be perceived as a place where popular culture developed. Was that a way of promoting those activities, was that a way to preserve folk traditions? This study is based on documents from the National Archives of Romania.
