Summary/Abstract: The article is a review of international research on social capital and its crucial elements. Empirical research of social capital at international level is relatively new, but its relevant elements (sources, results, symptoms, trust, interpersonal networks, citizenship's engagement, participation in various groups, associations, level of voluntarism, ways of spending time, etc) have been measured in the international comparative perspective since the early 1980s. In the 1990s and in the first decade of the XXI century we can observe more and more quantity of international research which is connected with the popularization of term “social capital”, as well as with some events on a global scale (among other things with the threat of terrorism) and with social transformations, which force us to examine the relevance of interpersonal relations.
