Problems of land utilization and protection in Poland

Summary/Abstract: Land in agriculture is the most important means of production and the work object. Furthermore, for all people it is the environment for living and working. From the social and cultural point of view it is also valuable. The paper presents different aspects of the land protection which existed in Poland in the period of 1960-2008. The study is based on data derived from the Central Statistical Office. During the analyzed period the structure of agriculturally used land changed. Large amount of agriculture land was converted into the land used for non-agriculture purposes. Among excluded land, there is a great deal of very good and good arable land. In the paper, there are also described problems; out-field and fallow land, devastated land, endangered from erosion and melioration.
