Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to make a general assessment of the importance of intraindustry exchange in Polish foreign trade against other selected European Union countries: the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania, Germany and Spain. As a research period, the years 2009-2013 were adopted, and also a prediction attempt for the next three years was made. The research method was a comparative analysis of major trends in cross-border trade and basic measures of intra-industry trade intensity were calculated. Large variations in the degree of openness of economies, in the size of the trade balance and in the scale of the upward trend in the exports and imports values are phenomena characteristic of foreign trade of the analysed countries. It also results in the observed differences in the intensity and structure of intra-industry trade. These differences are evident when calculating the intensity of such trade with the IIT index – both at the aggregated level and in individual product groups – as well as with the approach based on the measurement of revealed comparative advantage (RCA).
