Summary/Abstract: Indian ICT sector is the “engine” of the economy of this country. To a large extent India owes its development to a happy coincidence. In due course a large number of high educated profesionals with good knowledge of English met the development trend of outsourcing and offshoring in the global IT market. Therefore the emergence of ICT clusters in the largest metropolitan areas in India was inevitable. The authorities have recognized the potential of IT segment, of course, and over the years gradually adjust economic policies to the needs of entrepreneurs and local authorities. The aim of this article is to present the main conditions for the development of the Indian ICT sector and to describe the main economic policy tools used to support the industry. Because foreign companies (mainly multinational corporations) have a large share in it, the support measures for ICT are a part of a policy to promote exports. IT sector support is implemented mainly through special economic zones and technology parks (Software Technology Parks).
