Summary/Abstract: The article describes bookbinding branding knurls used for decoration of leather covers of books in the light of tools and compositions used in the history of bookbinding, with an attempt to present their coherence with works and art of Renaissance. There are many valuable, unique books on the shelves of the Jasna Góra Antique Library in Częstochowa. Among 16th century codices, there is a large group of covers with ornaments created using the bookbinding knurls.
