Summary/Abstract: The article shows the main assumptions and criticism of the homo economicus paradigm, which is the ground of the mainstream economics. The article presents the critical assessment of this paradigm given by economists of heterodox economics. The focus was mainly on the views of the new institutional economics and behavioral theory related primarily to rationality in making economic decisions. New homo economicus according to institutional economics does not make fully rational decisions, does not have full and reliable information on topics of interest to them and gaining information by them is costly and time consuming. The representatives of behavioral theories claim that people are not rational in the economic sense, but not because they sometimes do not behave in accordance with the criteria of rationality, but because they make mistakes that are predictable and systematic.
