TRADUZIONI E RICEZIONE DI EUGÈNE IONESCO IN ITALIA

Summary/Abstract: This article aims at analysing the situation of the Italian translations of Eugčne Ionesco’s theatre, as well as some aspects concerning the impact of his works on the Italian criticism and entertainment industry. The most popular and used translations of Ionesco’s works are those included in the two Einaudi collections: Théâtre I (1961) and Théâtre II (1967). Most of the translations of these volumes are signed by Gian Renzo Morteo, Ionesco’s greatest translator. In 1993, the Einaudi-Gallimard publishing house resumes the publication of Ionesco’s works in the volumes of the Bibliothčque de la Pléiade series, Théâtre complčte I, II, in which the plays are ordered by the date of their writing. The attitude of ideological closure with respect to Ionesco’s works is considered as the main reason for the late and slow interest of the Italian critics and entertainment industry in Ionesco’s works.
