Summary/Abstract: Lately, the interest in recovering the presence of phraseological units in the design of contents for foreign language teaching has been growing. From our point of view, there are several reasons to defend this interest, already manifest in textbooks aimed at teaching French to Spanish speakers that date back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Among them are the possibility of improving the learner’s linguistic and communicative competences and the incorporation to a larger extent of intercultural elements in the classroom. Native speakers acquire the mastery of phraseological units through cultural immersion and their spontaneous use in context. This is different for students who are native speakers of another language. Certainly, to cope with this challenge, specific didactic activities will have to be designed, since the teaching of phraseological units requires the mastery of turns of phrase and particular uses of language. We are convinced that this will also become a motivational factor for the student towards the acquisition of the new language.
