THE TRANSLATION OF GUSTAVE GUILLAUME’S TEXTS: A TERMINOLOGICAL AND CONCEPTUAL CHALLENGE FOR A TRANSLATOR SLOVAK

Summary/Abstract: The author deals with the specifics of syntax and metalanguage used by a linguist Gustave Guillaume and treats it from the perspective of translatology studies. The author deals with four aspects of Guillaume’s metalanguage: loans from various branches of science, authorial neologisms, traditional terminology and words-concepts. The singularity and complexity of Guillaume’s metalanguage, which is tightly connected to the conceptual and theoretical thinking of a linguist, constitute one of the main problems with the translation of the texts of Guillaume to Slovak language and culture.
