Summary/Abstract: The resocialization measures target the whole population of imprisoned individuals. The offer of programs made available by the Prison Service has been continuously expanded and modified. While recruiting individuals for re-adaptation programs, prison service staff assess a vast number of static and dynamic factors; yet they do not have objectivized indicators to help them define the potential for change of the recruited in penitentiary isolation. The concept of hardiness seems to be one of those variables which could help identify prisoners who see their imprisonment as a challenge and a point where they need to develop new coping strategies. The aim of this article is to determine the level of hardiness among prisoners, based on the 15-items Norwegian Revised Scale of Hardiness (DRS-15R). As the group under study (n = 1525) was relatively large, we were able to assess basic psychometric properties of the tool and to proceed to its standardization.
