Historical centre of Uniejów in the context of spa function development

Summary/Abstract: Uniejów is changing. Implementation of modern spa facilities and acquiring the status the health resort carry a great potential for development, but at present it only applies to new areas of the spa. However, as studies show, the double spatial layouts (town - spa), perfectly complement each other when the health resort area support the spa movement but the town support the tourism movement. A necessary condition for the existence of such a relationship is tourist attractiveness of urban areas, which is expressed by the: presence of explicit genius loci, the harmonious, compact buildings with features of uniqueness and quality of public spaces. The article focuses on the evaluation of spatial (morphological) attractiveness of Uniejów, in terms of its usefulness for the needs of tourism. The study includes an analysis of spatial development, in situ analysis, analysis of the buildings structure and the evaluation of the public spaces, realized as the “experience curve” (the study covered the main public spaces, that link the urban complex with the thermal area). The effect is an attempt to identify the main components of the attractiveness of the Uniejów urban complex and the main obstacles of tourist elicitation.
