Summary/Abstract: Simulating military actions has been an important element since ancient times, the fighting ability being intricately connected to training and exercises simulating real combat. With the advance of military science, the importance of simulation has increased, being used in testing the theory of war, in decision-making, acquisition and defence planning.This article focuses on certain aspects regarding the nature and theory of armed combat, as well as on the solutions found to plan wars: mathematical models, historical models and modern simulation.
