Summary/Abstract: This article analyses the situation of liberature in the field of literary production. It presents a historical outline of the phenomenon, starting with Zenon Fajfer’s proposal of a new literary genre. Bazarnik then contextualizes liberature with the sociological turn in bibliography, which demonstrated that “strong” authors striving to maintain their autonomy in the literary field paid attention to the semantically charged, intentionally shaped bibliographic code of their books. Finally, drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s mechanisms of consecration as well as modern sociolinguistic and rhetorical theories of genre, she describes liberature as a new form of literary communication that can be conceptualised in terms of genre understood as the horizon of expectations.
