Summary/Abstract: Chief Accountant in local government units performs duties within the scope of keeping the accounts, as well as financial activity. The aim of this article is to define the rights and obligations arising from the Accounting Act and special provisions which regulate financial activity of local government units. Moreover, it identifies basic professional qualifications for the position of Chief Accountant.
