Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to assess the state of sustainability of development among selected municipalities of Poznań agglomeration. For the purpose of the study operational definition of Poznań agglomeration was adopted, which describes the agglomeration as the district of Poznań with the exclusion of Poznań. The time horizon of the analysis covered the period from 2002 to 2012. Special attention was paid to the socio-economic dimension of sustainable development, which was characterized using variables obtained from the official statistics. Moreover, to conduct holistic assessment of sustainability of growth Generalised Distance Measure (GDM) was used. This method is used as a synthetic measure in linear ordering of objects. Analysis of individual variables and their synthetic measure showed a large variation in level and dynamics of the socio-economic aspects of local development among the units.
