Summary/Abstract: The remains of Kovachevsko kale are well known as early as the beginning of the 20th century. K. Shkorpil was the first to provide information about the fortress’ topography and fortification. However, the regular excavations there started in 1990. Over a period of 18 years, the entire length of the revealed defence system is 207 m, including five towers and four curtains. The stronghold has existed from the beginning of the 4th to the end of the 6th c.
